Undergraduate Program
The Bachelor of Music degree is the initial professional collegiate degree in music. Its primary emphasis is the development of the skills, concepts and sensitivity essential to the professional life of a musician. The School of Music at UT offers the Bachelor of Music degree with concentrations in:
- Music Education
- Music Performance
- Studio music and jazz
- Music theory/composition
- Pedagogy (piano)
- Sacred music (organ, piano and voice)
The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music is designed for students who have a strong interest in music and desire a comprehensive liberal studies program. Two concentrations are available in the B.A. program in music:
The Minor in music is intended for those students who wish to continue their study of music, but do not wish to pursue a career in music. The School of Music offers minors in:
- Applied Music
- Music and Culture
- Music Theory
Teacher Licensure: The School of Music offers two tracks that prepare students to teach music in public schools. The first track leads to the degree and teaching licensure. The second track provides for the granting of the degree at the end of four years, with teacher licensure being awarded after a fifth-year, graduate-level internship. Students choosing the second track earn twenty-four hours of credit which may be applied toward the Masters degree.
