Chamber Music Ireland Trip
From July 30-11, 2012, about forty members of the UT Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Angela Batey, traveled to Ireland to perform in Dublin and Belfast. Also performing with the group were faculty members Marjorie Bennett-Stephens and Andrew Skoog.
The Chambers Singers' performance venues included Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, the national cathedral of the Republic of Ireland; Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, where George Frideric Handel premiered his famous Messiah; Down Cathedral in Downpatrick where St. Patrick is believed to be buried; and St. Nicholas' Parish Church and Bangor Abbey, both in Belfast.
While in Ireland, the ensemble performed thirty-eight pieces of music including several composed by a UT alumnus David Pegel, now a graduate school at the University of Miami. Batey commissioned him to write the works.
