Welcome to The School of Music
The School of Music at the University of Tennessee is one of the premiere music programs in the nation. Part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Music offers a broad and comprehensive professional music program. Both the Bachelor of Music and the Bachelor of Arts degree are offered with various concentrations, as well as minor in music. The student body consists of 425 students, 345 undergraduates and 80 graduate students. The faculty consists of 49 full-time and 13 part-time faculty, with 40 graduate teaching assistants.
The School of Music offers approximately 160 concerts by faculty, ensembles, guest artists and student soloists each year.
The School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the accrediting agency for music units at institutions of higher education in the United States. Its degree requirements follow the latest guidelines of NASM.

- UTK Opera Invited to Compete at NOA National Convention
- Brendan McConville, Assistant professor in Music Theory, and Barbara Murphy, Associate Professor of Music Theory presented a paper at the 2009 national conference of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction
- Dennis Carter, tuba student of Sande MacMorran, won first place in the Young Artist Brass category in the Music Teachers National Association’s state auditions
