He directs the UT Jazz Big Band and small jazz combos. He also studied with Alan Dawson, George Marsh, and Ed Soph on a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Professor Brown is an active jazz performer and has played with Charlie Spivak, Mose Alison, Diane Schure, Jerry Coker, Tommy Flanagan and others. He is very involved with the Percussive Arts Society and has contributed articles to its official publication.

He received his B.M. degree in music education from the University of Michigan-Flint, the M.M. degree from The University of Tennessee, and is currently working on his D.M.A. at The University of North Texas. He teaches percussion and directs the percussion ensemble. Mr. Douglass was the principal timpanist with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, percussionist with the American Institute of Musical Studies Orchestra in Graz, Austria, and percussionist and timpanist with the Hot Springs Music Festival Orchestra. He has also appeared as a drumset/hand drumming artist with the American College Dance Festival, The University of Michigan Dance Ensemble and with numerous musical theater productions. Mr. Douglass has held faculty positions at Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Women's University, Maryville College and Warwick Pointe Holly Academy in Michigan.
