Conducting

Conducting

All undergraduate students majoring in music are required to take at least one course in conducting. Those interested in more experience may study conducting for up to four semesters as part of their respective degree programs.

The School of Music offers Master of Music degrees in choral and instrumental conducting. In addition to a strong academic core of classes, each student studies privately with the major professor in their area of concentration, participates in a variety of ensembles, and has ample podium time. To meet final performance requirements, students conduct one of the exsisting bands, choirs, or orchestras. On occasion these requirements are met conducting specially created ensembles. Graduates of the School of Music hold choral and instrumental conducting positions throughout the United States in public schools, churches, colleges, and universities.

Graduate assistantships and scholarships are available for master’s candidates in either the choral or instrumental conducting programs. Responsibilities include ensemble
administration and conducting.
