Financial Aid

Financial Assistance is available for both undergraduate and graduate students who are accepted to a School of Music degree program and show outstanding musical and academic ability. These awards include choral scholarships, graduate choral conducting scholarships, and graduate choral assistantships.

Choral Scholarships

Amount

An award of $500 to $2000

Qualifications

These awards are limited to undergraduate students who wish to work toward a degree in performance, music education, or church music, with a vocal concentration.

Selection Criteria

Recipients of these awards are selected on the basis of their vocal ability and the needs of the University's choirs.

Auditions

Applicants must complete a School of Music Audition. Vocal area auditions for acceptance to the School of Music will be held February 21 and 28, 2004

The Edward H. Hamilton Choral Directors Scholarships

Amount

An award of $2000

Qualifications

This award is limited to full-time students who wish to work toward a graduate degree in music or music education, with emphasis in choral conducting.

Selection Criteria

Recipients of this award are selected on the basis of:

  • dedication to professional choral conducting
  • vocal teaching ability
  • qualities of music leadership, and
  • scholarship as evidenced by recommendations and competitive conducting auditions.

Auditions

Applicants can choose either to audition in person or to submit a videotape of their conducting. On-campus auditions will be held on February 28, 2005. Taped auditions must be mailed by February 18, 2005

Application Procedures

  • Schedule an on-campus audition time or request detailed information regarding the taped audition.
  • Send a résumé and three letters of recommendation to the director of Choral Activities

Graduate Assistantships in Choral Conducting

Amount

Stipends of up to $11,000 including tuition waiver

Responsibilities

Assist with the conducting and administration of University choral ensembles

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in choral music education, church music, or voice performance with choral conducting experience
