David Stutzenberger conducts the Chamber Singers and the Men's Chorale, teaches graduate courses in choral conducting, choral literature, and is Vocal Area Coordinator of Conducting. He also serves as Director of Music at First Christian Church in Knoxville. Prior to joining the UT faculty, he was a member of the music faculty at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College and later served as Director of Choral Activities at Shenandoah University and Conservatory of Music. He received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from George Peabody College, the Master of Science in Music Education degree from the University of Illinois, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland.

From 2001-2003 Dr. Stutzenberger served as President of the American Choral Directors Association and on the Board of the International Federation for Choral Music. Currently he serves as Chair of the ACDA Past-Presidents Council and is Executive Secretary/Treasurer of the East Tennessee Vocal Association. Choirs he has conducted have performed at State and Division Conventions of both the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference, at Carnegie Hall, for national radio and television, at the National Gallery of Art, at the John F. Kennedy Center, and on concert tours of Europe, Russia, and England. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he appears frequently as a guest conductor of all-state, honor, and community choruses; as a choral adjudicator; and as a choral clinician. Besides ACDA, professional affiliations include IFCM, MENC, Tennessee Music Education Association, East Tennessee Vocal Association, and the American Choral Foundation. He is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha, and has been listed in Outstanding Educators of America.

 

 

 

   
Angela L. Batey
 

Angela L. Batey is Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Associate Director of Choral Activities.

Angela Batey is recognized as a prominent conductor, clinician, adjudicator and teacher whose wide variety of experience encompasses professional, university, high school, community and church choruses. She is Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Tennessee, where she conducts the Concert Choir, teaches conducting and music education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervises student teaching interns.

Dr. Batey is Conductor of the Roane Choral Society in Kingston, Tennessee, and is also Director of Music at Farragut Presbyterian Church. She is a Past-President of the Tennessee American Choral Directors Association.  She has been Associate Conductor of Schola Cantorum of Florida, a professional chorus and Associate Music Director of the Florida Ambassadors of Music which tours Europe biannually. She is also Associate Director of the International Cathedral Music Festival held annually in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Batey has appeared as a clinician for the American Choral Directors Association, South Carolina Music Educators Association, Florida Vocal Association, and is a frequent adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor of choral festivals, honors choirs and educational workshops. Her concern for excellence in education is the focal point of her teaching career.

Dr. Batey holds two degrees from Birmingham-Southern College in Music Education and Musical Theatre, a master's degree from The Florida State University in Music Education and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina. In addition, she has studied Conducting with Hugh Thomas, Joseph Flummerfelt, Robert Shaw, Colleen Kirk, Clayton Krehbiel, Andre Thomas, Don V Moses and Larry Wyatt.

 

 

   
Wendel Werner

Wendel Werner received his Bachelor of Music in Studio Music and Jazz and his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Tennessee. While at the University, he studied with renowned jazz musicians, Donald Brown and Jerry Coker. An accomplished composer and arranger, Mr. Werner has written for the Knoxville Children's Show Choir, Knoxville Showstoppers, UT Singers, Knoxville Community Chorus, and the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association. A proponent of jazz, Mr. Werner performs frequently for "Alive After Five," series of jazz programs at the Knoxville Museum of Art, and started the group "Just in Time", and all female vocal jazz group. Mr. Werner is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and serves as the Multicultural Music R&S chair for the Tennessee state chapter
